Good News for Bloggers

As people may be aware, the proposals made for press regulation, following the Leveson Inquiry, have been considered to possibly impact on private and small commercial blogs. Although you will note the disclaimer “This is not legal advice”, the following flowchart published by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport seems to indicate that the vast majority of blogging activity, including this one, are unlikely to be caught by the new regulations.

The formal definitions of “news” and “editorial control”* will be interesting, but this seems to exempt any single author and non-commercial blog, as well as almost all small business activity (unless your business is news publishing).

* I do edit posts on here – for updates, mistakes and spelling and grammar corrections. But I don’t think that’s what they mean.
